What is NLP (Neuro-Linguistic Programming)?

NLP is defined as the study of “excellence” or “experience” and enables us to change our behaviours and expand the choices available to us. Remember my favourite quote “It's not what happens to you, but how you react to it that matters” or an alternative from Charles R Swindoll (an American clergyman) “Life is 10% what happens to you and 90% how you react to it” Thus NLP gives us alternatives to our usual (or habitual) way of reacting and gives us options so that we can choose how to respond in the way that is healthiest for us.

By using NLP techniques within hypnotherapy I can help people to:

  • Gain more clarity about their goals
  • Identify more choices by challenging limiting beliefs
  • Communicate more effectively
  • Manage behaviours more effectively

NLP is also the basis of my coaching and I use a coaching approach with all my clients. The International Coaching Federation defines coaching as “ …partnering with clients in a thought provoking and creative process that inspires them to maximise their personal and professional potential”. When coaching I ask powerful questions to help you see from other perspectives; gain more clarity; explore options; identify solutions and actions and then take accountability for your actions. I also use specific NLP techniques outside of hypnosis, if we agree that this is the best approach to use for a particular part of the work that we are doing together.

I utilise all my knowledge, skills and experience (hypnotherapy, coaching, NLP, life experience) to work with each client on their specific goals. These goals can be related to a number of areas, including weight loss, stopping smoking, anxiety of all kinds, sleep problems, habits and phobias.
